Badgers Class

Spring  Term 2017

Welcome back!

Spring Term, 2017
For the first half of this term the children will be studying The Stone Age.   They will make time lines, do cave paintings, find out what life was like using books and other resources.
In the second half of the term the children will be learning about Ancient Egypt, The Shang Dynasty, Ancient Sumer and the Indus Valley.

Teaching Arrangements
Mrs Hopkins teaches on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesday mornings and Mrs Jackson teaches on Thursdays and Fridays. Miss Whitehurst and Mrs Mills also support Badgers Class and our school science lead, Mrs Jones teaches science once a fortnight.
Badgers class are very fortunate to benefit from Forest Schools for a whole afternoon, once a fortnight. Forest Schools, led by Miss Pearson, is an inspirational process, that offers all children opportunities to achieve and develop confidence and self-esteem through hands on learning. Shocklach Schools offers a superb natural environment with plentiful woodland-ideal for a Forest Schools setting.

Topic Wheel
We send home a Topic Wheel each term detailing what the children will be learning across all subjects of the National Curriculum. We would welcome any expertise from parents.

Homework is given out every Friday and is due in the following Friday. This will always include reading, spellings and times tables. Mrs Hopkins will test tables on Wednesdays and Mrs Jackson will test spellings on Thursdays. We expect reading to be complete each night. Please ensure that Reading Journals are kept updated and signed regularly (once a week as a minimum).

PE will be taught on a Tuesday and Thursday. Please ensure that your child’s named PE kit is in on these days. This half term, Badgers class will be focusing on Invasion Sports (Tag Rugby and Football skills) and in the second half term, the children will be focusing on Outdoor and Adventurous Activity.

Trips /visits
To link in with our Stone Age topic, Badgers class will be having a Stone Age Workshop.

Last term the class were lucky enough to visit Theatre Severn to watch Gangsta Granny 'Live'. As part of their written work the children wrote reviews of the play. Please see the attached folder for some exciting examples of the work from Badgers Class.

Your child should bring their book bag, reading book and Reading Record to school every day. A named water bottle to keep on their desk is ideal too. Water is ideal for refreshing the brain. Don’t forget that Badgers take part in our ‘Daily Mile’ and this can be thirsty work too! We do this in all weathers, so ensure a waterproof is always in school.

Here at Shocklach School, we are proud of the excellent relationship we have with parents. If you would like to speak to us, please do pop in. If it something quick, mornings are suitable. However, if more time is needed, please do make an appointment and we would be very happy to see you.
